Spreading the Word

I felt that it would be right for me to inform this site about the new HIV strain. For those of you who are familiar with HIV, you know that it takes 10-15 years for it to progress to AIDS. The new strand that some doctors found in a homeless New York man has been said to go from HIV to AIDS within a matter of months. This new strain is completely resistant to all the medications given to control HIV. So obviously the cure to AIDS is no where around the corner. My people, did you know that we make up 12 percent of the United States population? Small as hell right? Well one thing that isnt small is that African-Americans make up 55 percent of the United States population that is infected with HIV. For every white man that is infected, eight black men are infected. Oh and ladies, we in trouble too. 74 percent of the 55 percent infected African-Americans are women.

What struck me the most was that the state of Lousiana has two of its cities listed in the top ten cities with the most affected people. New Orleans (where i attend school) came in at number 5 and Baton Rouge came in at number 2.

This something for you guys to think about. Get tested. Get educated.

Your simile is on point...the way I see it...the more and more this stuff is reminded in our small comunities the more aware we African-American young people can become...if unprotected s*x is what we prefer...atleast get to KNOW your partner so that if anything does come up...you know who to blame...

That shyt is crazy...Up in Bmore(baltimore) where i stay at they had a commerical on the radio talkin bout they are testing people for an aids vacination to see if it works..the only thing is if u have AIDs u outta luck cause only people that done have it can get the vaccination to prevent AIDS...so atleast there is some kind of progress with that, but they definitly need to hurry up with that cure for real..and what website was it that u looked at to see what cities were listed, cause i know bmore gotta be up there somewhere.....holla

Thank you for spreading the message....HIV and AIDS i'm sorry to say is very over looked by the black community and it's sad that we make up more than half of those infected with it... 74% of african americans infected are women? that is crazy! And I heard somewhere that most of the women get infected because of brotha's who are on the DL.

I agree we need to get tested and everyone needs to share their results with their partner... I hate to say it but one night of pleasure is not worth the rest of your life in pain!!!

The main reasons that women are becoming more victim to HIV than our black men our due to Men on the DL and a lot of women these days are afraid of losing their significant other (men in particular) so when a man tells a woman that he doesnt want to use protection...8 out of ten times the women wont use it just so she wont lose him...its sad but women we are vulnerable and naieve (most of us that is) and also it is easier for us to contract the disease than it is for men due to the structure of our reproductive organs...i wont go into any details but if u really want to know...ask
