joining a Sorority

I was chilling with my mom the other day while we was driving and i told her that i wanted to join a sorority when i get to college. At first she wasn't really to happy about it because my mom is a lifetime channel woman and she has watched thousands of movies about hazing in college when trying to join a sorority or a fraturnity. She was telling me about all the things that will happen and all this other stuff and i was just telling her that it might not be that way at this college and stuff like that, I tried my hardest to convince her that i will be okay if i did in fact want to join a sorority and the oppurtunity did come up to join, she wasn't trying to hear it at all. I wondering if there is anyone out there who has been through the process of joing a sorority and the stuff you been through. I know there are people who go through hazing at their college but has anyone ever heard of hazing at a black college. I don't know if it happens or not but i haven't heard any stories of it happening at a black college. Am I being to naive, someone hit me up and tell me because that hazing stuff aint no joke.
