I'm the current Sports editor of the Gramblinite, and I've been hampered by a conflict. Are women sports unneccesary?
Now...I believe that women can do whatever sport they want...and some of them are better than their s*xual counterparts. However, at Grambling, the men dominate everything.
Our women's soccer team won the 2004 SWAC championship. They had little coverage all season. However, they only got a story on their championship win.
Our football team won the Bayou Classic. They got the ENTIRE paper on their win. Um...let's also remember that this is NOT a championship. We finished 6-5. The women's soccer team finished almost undefeated (I forgot their record).
Now you tell me, are they neccesary? Are women's sports making a big enough impact as they should? Should we just throw these programs out the door?
The answer is simple. Yes...they are neccesary. No, they are not making a big enough impact as they should, due to inadequate coverage. No, these programs should be updated.
Our women's team are doing pretty good, considering that they do not get as much money as they should.
Now...if the women's soccer team repeat this season, which they probably won't due to several scandals, should they get the whole paper? You tell me...
