Morris-North Sumter Empowerment Housing Project Underway (377 hits)

In 2006, Morris College was awarded a $600,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to revitalize the surrounding neighborhood of the institution.

On last year, the demolition of a burned-out house was completed and, since then, a new home is being built on the same site.

As the Morris-North Sumter Empowerment Housing Project moves forward, additional work will include building and selling a minimum of two more affordable quality homes to low-and moderate-income people who seek home ownership, and financing the renovation of six additional owner-occupied homes within the target area.
