Wilberforce University’s Faculty released the Inaugural Edition of its Faculty Journal in April 2008. The Journal contains refereed faculty papers along with highlights of faculty-centered university programs, their recent publications and presentations, honors/awards, professional development and more. Dedicated to the Pursuit of Excellence in Higher Education, the Journal captures the spirit of the faculty’s continuing pursuit of excellence by also highlighting faculty photos of the past (1900) and present (2008). Dr. Hardaway congratulated the faculty on the impressive journal and noted the publication “embodies the University’s spirit of continuity and resilience” since during the University’s One Hundred Fifty Two year history the faculty has sponsored other publications. She further states “ our faculty members are instrumental in guiding our students in exploring and enhancing their innate abilities as well as identifying and developing wholly new and perhaps undreamed of capabilities and skill sets; intellectual, spiritual, physical.” The Journal signals a commitment by the faculty to continue as stewards of an environment and culture that foster creativity, transparency, intellectual curiosity and academic freedom. Journal editor, Nodie Washington, notes “ it is humbling to realize the enormous responsibility of the faculty to carry the torch from generation to generation to educate, motivate and inspire students to not only thirst for knowledge but also to leverage that knowledge in careers that make the world a better place educationally, spiritually/ethically/morally, economically, environmentally and more.”
