The Obama Presidential Campaign will hold a public hearing on the Democratic Party platform on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 4:30-9pm at Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York (CUNY) in Founders Auditorium at 1650 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225.
As presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama gears up for the Democratic National Convention in Colorado this August, his campaign- in conjunction with the Democratic National Committee- is touching base with the American people to ascertain the issues that are paramount in their lives. The results of this public hearing, and others like it, will be incorporated into Senator Obama’s “platform for change.”
The hearing at Medgar Evers will comprise two parts: the first half will focus on campaign issues such as renewing American prosperity, housing, tax and healthcare reform, trade, foreign policy, and education. The second half will be an open floor session providing the public a forum to discuss issues of their choosing.
This event is part of a chain of public hearings to be conducted by the Obama Presidential Campaign throughout the nation. In New York City there are meetings scheduled in Queens (July 22), and Manhattan (July 23). The public hearings are intended to provide voters a venue to engage and influence policy makers. Attendees are encouraged to share their ideas and suggestions in 3 minute presentations- there is also an option to bring a copy of the presentation to leave with the campaign. The Obama campaign is also accepting written testimony and talking points in advance that will prioritize testimonies. The results will be incorporated into the formal process that culminates in the adoption of the platform at the Democratic Convention in August.
