Graduation is just around the corner, and now you are ready to leave your mark in the real world and want to reach newer and greater heights in a challenging career. The McGraw- Hill Companies can help you achieve those ambitions!
The McGraw-Hill Companies is a corporation that seeks those whose ideas will reach wide, whose impact will be felt far and who have a truly global perspective. With more than 280 offices in 40 countries, it’s no wonder the company is in search of this type of talent.
McGraw-Hill provides essential information and insight to its customers that help them meet the enduring needs driving economic growth worldwide—the need for knowledge, the need for capital and the need for information transparency. A recognized leader for its broad array of employee benefits, resources and policies, the corporation is known for such leading brands as Standard & Poor’s, McGraw-Hill Education, BusinessWeek and J.D. Power and Associates.
Marcus Armstead, vice president of strategic marketing for Standard & Poor’s data and information business, describes his 9 ½ years with the company as “enriching” and rewarding in every aspect. Armstead’s department focuses on developing marketing strategies to promote and grow the business. “I have grown professionally and personally through challenging work, and I have achieved a great sense of satisfaction through helping the business grow,” states Mr. Armstead.
Armstead, a member of Black Employees at McGraw-Hill (BEAM), states the company is a leader in diversity and attracts, develops and retains a broad base of talent that is representative of its global nature. “The company’s diversity office focuses on leadership, education, training, community programs, and benefits,” said Armstead. The company recognizes the importance of diversity in the workplace and encouraged the formation of grassroots-driven groups such as BEAM to mentor and retain the best talent.
McGraw-Hill is not only committed to diversity but also recognizes and rewards its employees through the “A- factor” – ability, accomplishment, and aspiration. Great effort is recognized and hard work and new ideas are not only encouraged, but also rewarded. Armstead said that by taking on new and challenging roles and responsibilities, and by delivering superior results, employees earn increasingly larger roles at the company. Armstead, who is proof of the corporation’s commitment to rewarding its employees’ hard work and dedication, said the increased level of responsibility “gives me a sense of accomplishment.”
Armstead gives this advice to students who want a challenging career: “Participate in internships while in college. This will give you real work experience and an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in a practical way.” He also states that for students without a lot of work experience, “Send the Human Resources department a great-looking cover letter that is well thought out, smartly written and highlights the skill sets you would bring to the company, so that you stand out.”
The McGraw-Hill Companies is searching for open minds to drive its business to open, global markets. So, open your mind to the many opportunities with a career at McGraw-Hill, a company that embraces diverse perspectives, educational backgrounds, work experiences and personal interests.
