ON DADDY'S HAT
for my Daddy: Whit
On my daddy's hat is
a cloth of made of kinte
tied in strong knots.
On my daddy's hat
is sweat and my
mama's tears she misses him.
On my daddy's hat
is ocean waters, and sand,
bitterness and smells of a
different place.
On my daddy's hat is
mud, grass and lashes
from his back.
On my daddy's hat is
prayers, hymns, and
freedom songs.
On my daddy's hat
is
dust, and cott'n fields..
On my daddy's hat is
blackness of his race
darkness of his face...
a burning case...
On my daddy's hat
is a mule and 2 acres.
On my daddy's hat
is years of his struggles
to a freedom at last.
Years past...
Now, I find
my mothers,her sons, and her daughters.
Where is daddy's hat?
Daddy anin't wearing his hat.
no mo.
Daddy
return
to
yur
family.
(There are over 24 million homes without fathers)
Daddy, put back on your hats.
