Colin Powell Should Be Barack Obama's VP (1044 hits)

I think that Colin Powell should be Barack Obama's Vice President in the spirit of Coperation and Unity. John McCain and the republicans wouldn't know what to do. If Barack is the "ONE", then he will consider Colin Powell as his Vice President. I'd like to know what everyone else think.

Respect!

That would be a powerful combination... it would appeal to the moderate-leaning conservatives that are on the fence about McCain. It would also demonstrate that Obama is willing to form alliances and partnerships across the aisle, to support his platform of unifying for change. Interesting...

I agree that having Colin Powell on anyones side would be a major force to deal with. However if Barack is to become the "First Black President," selecting Colin Powell could have positive and negative effects in my opinion. We are so ready to see a black man/woman as the US President. I feel however that a lot of black voters will vote on candidates because they are black without really looking into what they are doing for the people. For example, when you watch TV with friends, let's use American Idol as an example. Fantasia Barrino vs Diana Degarmo. How many of your black friends wanted Diana to win? Did they want Fantasia to win because she was a better singer? Or did the fact that she's black take over the real reason for voting for her? It's going to be similar to the scene in the movie, "head of state" when all the blacks stood up for Chris Rock & all the whites sat down, and vice versa for the other guy. I think that Barack selecting Colin would turn this election into even more of a black party vs white party, instead of who's going to hit the issues of the nation and follow through. JC brings up a good point though on possibly grabbing the attention of the conservatives... Good topic... Let's go deeper...Jazz

I agree totally! However, I don't think Obama would do that. America would except one Brotha in the White House but def not two. Just my opinion.

I predict Edwards being his running mate. America would go for it cause as soon as Obama does something worth impeaching......they'll have the Vice (Sen. Edwards, which happens to be white) to step up.

think Brenda has been feeding too much into the news reel of what's going on behind the Global War on Terrorism. I am apart of the operation... I have been to Iraq twice... Do I agree why we went to war? Yes & No. From a civilian ponit of view, it's all about President Bush flexing his muscle, wanting oil, etc. From a National Defense point of view, this is a group of people how do not fear dying. They will do anything to kill Americans, or anyone who don't believe their extremist views, including their own people. So let me help paint you a picture. You don't agree with President Bush's war. You would be killed if anyone found out. So what do you do? You be quite and don't say anything? Or you start believing in his reasons. Saddam Hussein. Killed people who didn't agree with him. How would it make you feel if the US was like that? Would you like your children to be brought up like that? What would you do? If you can't beat them, would you join them? I think if everyone got a chance to see what i've seen, lost a close friend to a terror attack like I have, or go and sit there in the desert looking into the eyes of people who want to be helped and those that want to kill you; it would give you a new respect for what's going on... You may not agree with it, but how could you? All you have to go off of is what you hear, not what you've been through. Colin Powell is a great leader, i don't agree with all of his views, but he is put in a position where a choice must be made. Just like the president. 911 happened, okay the choice. Do nothing, or Go after the ones who did it. No matter who was the in office a choice would have to be made & no matter which choice was made, someone isn't going to agree. So when you say Colin helped Bush "sell his war," if he was against it, would he have helped him, "surrender our freedom?" Let's run with this... Great Stuff!!! Anyone else have any ideas, opinions, suggestions?

Re: Colin Powell VP for Barack Obama
Wow! This is deep. I think all of you have very valid opinions. I don't believe two blacks would be a good idea. We need balance. I think John Edwards would make an excellent vice. I agree with Devan Smith's comments on Colin Powell and Dr. Rice. They deserve our deepest respect for their outstanding service. None of us know what we would do in any given situation until we get there. My rule of thump is to always try to put myself in someone else's shoes. We must start seeing from others views so that we can be more objctive. This is a great moment in history...we must sieze this moment to show ourselves to be people we have always been. Keep Mr. Obama lifted up in prayer always. He is under tremendous pressure. He needs our full support. Stay focused and stay on point. Blessing and love!
