FOUR TIGERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-OVC TEAM -- TIGERS PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH --

Heffner and Williams
Four Tennessee State University football players, two offensive and two defensive, were named to the Preseason 2007 All-OVC football team. The Tigers were picked to finish fifth, of ten teams, in the predicted order of finish. The preseason team and POF were selected in voting by the Ohio Valley Conference's football coaches and sports information directors.

On offense, two juniors, quarterback Antonio Heffner and running back Javarris Williams gained the preseason team and on defense, two seniors, corner back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and end Shaun Richardson gained recognition.

Heffner (6-2, 195 - Memphis, TN), a transfer from South Carolina, earned first team All-OVC honors last season after passing for 1,668 yds (109-199-11) and 9 TD's. He ranked among national leaders (NCAA,FCS) in passing efficiency and Total Offense.

Williams (5-11, 175 - Richmond, TX), rushed for 1,233 yds on 245 attempts (5.0 yds/att) and 11 rushing TD's. he moved into third place among all-time rushers on TSU's rushing list (2,105).

Richardson (6-3, 250 - St. Louis, MO) was the 2006 OVC Newcomer of the Year, coming to the Big Blue from Joliet (JC) last year. Richardson led the team in TFL's with 8 (40) and was second in sacks with 2.5 (15). He had six QB hurries and two pass deflections.

Rodgers-Cromartie (6-2, 175 - Bradenton, FL) led the OVC in interceptions with 6 (37) and was third in the nation (NCAA, FCS). He is the leading returning tackler for the Tigers, recording forty-seven (37 solo) with 2 TFL (10), thirteen pass defenses and one blocked kick. He has been named an All-American in several preseason lists, including the College Sporting News.

The Tigers finished third in the 2006 OVC race with a 5-2 conference record and were in the title hunt entering the final game of the season. TSU finished 1-6 in the OVC the previous season (2005).

TSU opens the 2007 season on September 1, 2007 hosting Alabama A&M in the John Merritt Classic. Players report for training camp on August 1st.
