Derrick Hayes to speak in Kentucky (341 hits)

Community Is Invited To Hear Renowned Motivational Speaker

By Carol Major

When it comes to teaching others responsibility and life skills, motivational speaker Derrick Hayes has proven he’s one of the best. He believes that everyone has a gift and once you’ve discovered your gift, you can unwrap it and share it with the world.

On Wednesday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the FCHS gym, Hayes will speak to the students of Fulton County on The Power of Positive Thinking, his most sought after program. Fulton County Elementary/Middle School Administrative Support Person, PaTrice Tucker cordially invites the public to join the students on their first day of the new school year, August 8th, to hear Hayes deliver his upbeat, inspiring and educational speech. "His messages are geared to show people how they can use their given talents to start their own business, overcome the challenges that they will face along the way and take advantage of opportunities," Tucker says. "What better way for our students, faculty and staff to begin the school year than on a positive note."

During his freshman year at Tennessee State University he started his own business, Hotdog Heaven, after selling three packs of hot dogs to hungry students. Selling hot dogs paid his way through college and inspired him to begin teaching other people how to run a business.

From the Nashville Urban League to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Hayes is bringing new perspectives and ideas about how to succeed in America regardless of one’s economic background. The Power of Positive Thinking helps a person change the way he thinks so that he will see it’s not what happens to him but how he reacts to what happens.

Hayes has delivered workshops and keynote speeches at high school assemblies, meetings, rallies, conferences, conventions, college assembly programs and summer camps. Some of his clients include: U.S. Department of Commerce, Auburn University, Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee State University, Nashville Public Schools, Alabama Department of Corrections, Mississippi State 4-H Club, Brown Sanders College, Bauder College, Bowie State University, Jackson State University, AIU Buckhead, Georgia Pacific, Georgia Power, Tennessee Childcare Facilities Corporations, Georgia State University, and Georgia Department of Human Resources.

Hayes authored Derricknyms From A to Z and co-authored Can Hip Hop Be Holy?

Carol Major is the Public Relations Director of the Fulton County School District.
