The Baltimore Renaissance Foundation (2950 hits)

For Immediate Release / 19 March 2007 Monday

Hampton alumnus Jonathan Carter today formally announced the development of The Baltimore Renaissance Foundation, a nonprofit youth leadership organization promoting social change through entrepreneurship.

The Baltimore Renaissance concept originated from the "Harlem Renaissance", a 1920s social and intellectual movement emphasizing creative expression, entrepreneurial growth, and the strength and dignity of the common man.

The Foundation sponsors two student programs: The Student Professional Development Initiative (SPDI), which trains young men to become successful business leaders by managing a local community development project, and Project Counterculture, a program encouraging positive self-expression through the arts and literature.

In addition, The Baltimore Renaissance Foundation publishes a quarterly newsletter, Savant, featuring analysis of community challenges and achievements, and highlighting positive role models in Baltimore.

The Foundation's research division assists individuals and organizations in developing effective community programming, and manages the Foundation's process improvement capabilities.

Baltimore Renaissance is currently seeking students interested in business, politics, and social issues to contribute original writing and editorial content. Additionally, high school and college students in the Baltimore metropolitan area are eligible to apply for one of several internships with the Foundation. Interested students should email resumes to internships@baltimorerenaissance.org.
