When My Father and Mother Forsake Me (532 hits)

When My Father and Mother Forsake Me, Then My Abba Will Take Me Up (Psalms 27:10) is a powerful memoir written from the broken and poignant voice of an African-American man - William W. Hemmans III. It draws on the readers’ deepest emotions as they live with him, his life on the streets, experiencing innumerable trials, journey towards manhood and self discovery.

Hemmans' life was one of abandonment; by parents, by family, by foster systems, social systems and educational systems. All of these contributed to relegating him to being insignificant statistically, a manchild who should not succeed. Traumatized emotionally, isolated, neglected and victimized, he struggled for acceptance and to understand his purpose.

Today, he tells his story; the lessons learned in perseverance, the unquenched thirst to be somebody. It is a story about a spirit that could not be destroyed and it crosses genders, race, creed, age, time and distance. He provides the solution to others who may have or may fall victim to similar circumstances. Defeat or falling does not have to be a permanent state of existence.

This book is phenomenal and revolutionary as it brings you into a young mind struggling against every negative force; s*x, violence, self destructive/life threatening behaviors, alcohol, anger, hatred, drugs, loneliness, ridicule. This mind questions the temporary solutions given by way of the mental health field and argues against false solutions of accompanying medications. The writer attests the only permanent solution is spiritual.
