500 African American men graduating. Where's news media?????? This was from my dad This is absolutely beautiful but where was ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX,CNN,MSNBC,UPN,BET, and every other news media. Was it not newsworthy? If this had been 500 Blacks rioting, every network would have provided coverage. This is the largest class ever! I don't know about you guys, but this sure made me feel proud of our young Black men. In spite of what the news media paint of young Blacks, not all of them are illiterate, bangers, rappers or in jail. This is Morehouse's graduation. Did anyone besides Atlantans see these pictures in their newspapers? If you check out the second set of stills, you may even see proud papa Denzel taking pictures of his son (2nd set - pic 7). Please share with everyone you know regardless of race. Send to all media outlets that you know! Click the link & enjoy!!! http://www.morehouse.edu/events/2006/comme... one Love, Candice

I feel what you are saying but I offer this. We as a people will go farther when we stop letting others define us and define ourselves. We need to stop buying into the propaganda that is in all forms of media. Am I proud of the brothas down at Morehouse...Damn right...Do I need all those media outlets to validate their accomplishment? Nope, because it wouldn't be genuine anyhow. Someway somehow they would put a negative spin on it and it would be a shame to taint it like that. We as black folk need to work on our self image. We need to start instilling in our kids positive things about their race and share the rich history that we have. Turn off these videos and TV shows where we are shown shuckin, jivin, coonin, killin, pimpin, hoin, etc and spend some time together talking, reading and sewing into one another. While it would be nice to see this type of accomplishment splashed across the news we can't count on it for obvious reasons. Only by future generations achieving and getting in strategic places in the media can it change.....that being said we got work to do. Just my 2 cents.

Candice, your blog is right on target. If 500 brothers were going to prison on the same day, at the same time, it would be all over the news. Most don't care and don't see our progress as newsworthy. But you keep spreading the good word.

America's Worst Nightmare: Young, Educated, Talented, and Black MEN!!! This was definately Newsworthy..............Great Job Fellas! Keep striving to be successful no matter what comes your way! I can't believe the media was not there, becuase I think that is disrespectful to Mr. Denzel Washington........He is an Idol so why not broadcast the man on a happy day of his life as well as the other parents of our Black Men. If it was Oprah and she was there supporting her son she would have probably stirred up something to rebel against these actions!

I am so proud of our black men...continue to strive for success and let no man or woman stop you! It doesn't matter if white America validated such a milestone or not, they could care less about Black men getting educated...when we start taking over the white house, the courtrooms, corporations, the hospitals--then they will take notice and start to worry. I hope that we see more black men in positions of power everywhere-Obama can't do it himself and there are more young men out there with just as much potential if not more. It is time out for letting white America only embrace one black man at a time when it comes to power...I am so proud of our black men. Continue what you have started...as Cicely Tyson said in Madea's Family Reunion "Take Your Place!"

Thank you for posting this blog. It's good to see our black men doing something positive with their lives! But in a way I'm glad that they didn't broadcast this information. It would almost be as they were saying it was miracle, that they couldn't believe black men were capable of accomplishing something like that. But at the same time, they should be acknowledged.

This is wonderful information; however, as for the media outlets not making a mad dash to publicize the large graduating class of black men, that’s an issue that is typically handled through an institution's media relations department. On the other hand, for this information to be newsworthy to media outlets outside of Atlanta and surrounding vicinities, newspaper managing editors/editors would have had to not only been given the information through an official university representative, but also have found it to have been newsworthy for their reader population. And, for TV news, it would be a matter of producers to not only receive the information, but also to determine whether it is news, and if so, how much time to allot towards its coverage. As for such a large number of blacks making news if they had been rioting, you’re correct, but also keep in mind that any large group of any ethnicity rioting would have made the news. Nevertheless, I’m sure with some form of write-ins (electronically or other mode of documentation), perhaps certain news networks might find it an interesting piece for a news documentary of sorts. This might be especially so if in fact it is verified that, “No other institution in the world can match this impressive number” – That is to say, that it doesn't have to be compared globally, but rather anywhere in the US or among all HBCUs. Who knows, by virtue of the initial posting of this information on this site, the wheels might already be in motion for a future news project – Who knows? In the meantime, the PR/Media Relations department at the university might also be in overload on their efforts to bring about media recognition of their institution’s graduates’/graduation achievement. Then again, because it was stated that Denzel Washington’s son was among those included in that large class of graduates, maybe one of those entertainment networks will do a segment on the institution. Anyway, I really appreciate learning of this information! Jane

I am not suprised by the media not covering the Morehouse graduation. I saw pitcures of the graduation in Jet and I am sure that some of the other African American newspapers around the country mentioned the historic event. It is time that we realize that America does not love us. The most important thing is that we as African Americans stick together and spread the achievements of our own through websites such as this one and through BLACK PUBLICATIONS. During the Emit Till trial African American publications covered the story and brought national attention.
