Seven Hillz Productions Foundation present The 2020 Benjamin Moses, Jr. HBCU Scholarships (3134 hits)

Seven Hillz Productions Foundation, a Florida-based production company, founded by Breion Moses announced its scholarship fund--The Benjamin Moses, Jr. Scholarship Fund benefiting students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This past year, Seven Hillz Foundation made history when they hosted the inaugural ReelBack Film Summit on the campus of Florida A&M University and awarded students with $500 scholarships. Breion Moses created the first film summit on her alma mater FAMU campus.

“We created ReelBack to showcase bodies of work by HBCU graduates to encourage them to come home to their respective alma maters. Our goal is to equip those interested in the field with the knowledge and skills they need to break into the entertainment industry. What sets us apart is our commitment to HBCUs--there are a lot of student organizations on HBCU campuses interested in film and entertainment, but they have limited resources and no idea where to start. ReelBack provides a platform for HBCU students to showcase their talent,” says Moses.

Recent data from UCLA's Hollywood Diversity Report stated that In 2018, just 7.1% of the directors of top-grossing films were women and 19.3% were people of color. In 2019, women posted meaningful gains to reach 15.1%, but minorities directed just 14.4% percent of the top box office movies, a slight increase over recent years. Women earned 14.8% of writing credits on the films analyzed in 2018, and minorities claimed 10.4%. Both figures improved for 2019, with 17.4% of writing credits going to women and 13.9% to people of color. Students have until November 30, 2020 to apply for the scholarships.
