Alcorn State University plans to offer in-person classes this fall (4730 hits)

The Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) announced today that all public Mississippi universities should make plans to offer as many of their in-person classes as possible under federal and state governments' health guidelines.

“In light of the current health crisis, I know many students and their families are eager to learn about our plans for the upcoming fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters at Alcorn State University,“ said University President, Felecia M. Nave. “The health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority. We are developing options based on IHL and Alcorn task forces’ guidelines with the intention of returning to campus operations in the fall, to the fullest extent prudent.”

The University’s Campus Safe Start Task Force will provide strategies designed to assist the University in determining the best option for a safe in-person fall experience across all campuses (Lorman, Vicksburg, and Natchez). The cross-departmental task force is led by Dr. Keith A. McGee, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, and is charged with developing guidelines that will ensure the University will meet or exceed all social distancing, cleaning and safety protocols related to classroom instruction, on-campus housing and dining, and campus activities.

All eight public universities—including Alcorn State University, Delta State University, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, Mississippi University for Women, Mississippi Valley State University, the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi—will develop plans to open for in-person classes.

President Nave added. “I look forward to greeting our students this fall. Mindful of educational continuity, the Alcorn experience is about developing meaningful life-long friendships, a core set of values, and building essential leadership skills that will serve our students far beyond the classroom. Alcorn is about family and community, connection, and rich tradition where knowledge and character matter.”
