As college students, it seems as though we are constantly dealing with stress, sickness and a lack of sleep. If you are looking for a natural way to help eliminate those issues, you may want to try using essential oils. Essential oils have become a popular, therapeutic resource used not only for their aroma and sweet scents, but also as a remedy for a number of health issues. According natural health store the Global Healing Center, you can use essential oils by applying drops to your skin, inserting drops into a vaporizer or diffuser or ingesting the select few oils that are able to be taken orally. Listed below are five of the most popular essential oils that to health blog Well and Good believe have the potential to enhance your overall health and well-being.

Suffering from a nasty cold or lingering cough? According Well and Good, inhaling eucalyptus oil is said to be one of the best remedies to improve respiratory health and soothe a sore throat. Instead of using traditional medicinal methods, you can substitute eucalyptus oil as a therapeutic remedy to clear your congestion and sinus cavities.

If so, you may want to try using lavender oil before bed as essential oil shop The Aroma Foundry states that lavender can “decrease insomnia, reduce anxiety and induce relaxation.” If you want to boost your immune system, The Aroma Foundry also suggests using lavender oil because its chemical makeup contains many antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

Additionally, the Global Healing Center states that you can ingest peppermint oil to relieve a stomach ache and improve the digestion process since it works to “calm the smooth muscle of the stomach and improve the digestive flow” within your stomach.

Jasmine Oil

If you need an instant mood booster, try applying drops of jasmine oil to your body. The Global Healing Center reports that the antioxidants in jasmine oil “increases alertness, breathing rate, and vigor” to act as an antidepressant. The stimulation causes your body to react by increasing your sense of well-being and enhancing your overall mood.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is similar to jasmine oil and can be applied for the same benefits. Well and Good states that rosemary oil “reduces the cortisol hormone in your body,” which is the main hormone that arises in times of extreme stress.
