Oakwood University Signs MOU with U.S. Department of Treasury and Government Services Administration (1012 hits)

Oakwood University was recently invited by the United States (U.S.) Department of Treasury and Government Services Administration (GSA) to the official signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This landmark MOU agreement will increase the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) participation in federal contracting.

Previously, U.S. Government agencies contracted 0.13% to HBCUs of the $13.6 billions of dollars won by other universities across the United States. The goal of the new MOU is to develop a partnership to connect HBCUs to Federal contracting opportunities through GSA Schedules. The partnership will focus on

1. providing equitable opportunities to participate in Federal acquisitions;
2. connecting HBCUs to contracting opportunities through GSA Schedules;
3. access to the GSA Professional Services Schedule and IT Schedule 70;
4. contract vehicles to expand access to include HBCUs Schedule Holders;
5. decreasing administrative burden on agencies doing business with HBCUs; and
6. increasing Federal contract awards made to HBCUs.

Oakwood University is one of six HBCUs recognized for stellar leadership in the GSA and Department of the Treasury’s opening new frontiers for HBCUs. Some of the benefits that government agencies will receive are:

• Priority access to high quality talent
• Reduced recruiting costs
• Motivated workers
• Completion of special projects
• “Try before you buy”
• Good exposure within the community
