Oakwood University welcomed high school and college students from around the nation last week for our annual “Oakwood Live!” event. The visiting students got the opportunity to experience college life first hand, which included staying in the dorms and visiting the academic depart-ments and classes during campus tours.
Accompanied by OU Navigators, on Thursday night, our guests were entertained at nearby Dave and Busters, which Oakwood bought out for the evening.
As a Christian university, Oakwood is dedicated to the spiritual enrichment of all students. ON Friday evening, visiting students participated in one of Oakwood's signature programs, AYM, where a mass choir of college students performed and ministered to a packed church. On Sabbath, October 12, Dr. Leslie Pollard, president of Oakwood University, delivered a powerful sermon to the current and visiting students, and the congregation.
The Saturday Night activities included a Block Party featuring an array of food trucks, and the College Days Basketball game where current Freshmen played against visiting students for bragging rights.
Students voyaged back home Sunday to their respective cities, taking with them, their own little piece of Oakwood.
Over 200 enthusiastic "Oakwood Live!" students submitted their applications to attend Oakwood University in the future. The prospective students' transcripts were reviewed, and many were accepted on the spot during the Departmental Fair in the Millet Activity Center.
