WEST VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT TO GO “OVER THE EDGE” TO HELP END RACISM (1903 hits)

West Virginia State University (WVSU) President Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins is going “Over the Edge” on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in support of the YWCA of Charleston’s campaign to end racism.

The Over the Edge fundraiser is an urban rappelling experience at the downtown Charleston BB&T Building located at 300 Summers St. that will feature 100 adventure seekers rappelling 211 feet down the side of the building.

“For far too long, across our nation and state we have witnessed the profound destruction caused by racism and intolerance. Because I believe we all have a responsibility to make our society better, I proudly support the YWCA of Charleston in their campaign to end racism,” said President Jenkins. “Despite substantial progress, racism remains a critical issue in our society that many are afraid to address. My participation in this high profile event is yet another effort to keep fighting for our nation and state not as they are, but rather the way they should be, more just.”

Each of the 100 participants has pledged to raise at least $1,000 to support the YWCA campaign.

Over the Edge will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 22. In addition to the rappelling, the event will feature food trucks and live music from the Bob Thompson Unit, Something Special and Stratus. The event is part of Charleston’s FestivALL.
