A call for term limits: Congressman DeLay (R-TX) (935 hits)

"IF THE OPPOSITE OF PRO IS CON: THEN THE OPPOSITE OF PRO-GRESS IS CON-GRESS"MARK TWAIN

This article is related to my blog I wrote about the mid-term elections coming up. Tom Delay (R-TX) has been placed in the middle of an enormous scandal-some say will touch the white house-meaning it will alter the race for the presidency in 2008. It seems Congressman DeLay is not delaying his departure spurred by venality in his office.

Read the article here
DeLay's Chief of Staff or Deputy Chief has testfied that a ring of illegal activities have been launched from the Congressman's office insinuating DeLay was cognizant: why else would he step down in connection to a federal probe.

The bargain seems to be: resign-keep your record in tact, as never being defeated, but never run for Congress again. I wonder if we will ever hear his name again for public office?

Back in the 19th century they tried to run Black Congressman out of office with allegations of malfesance. In the 20th Century they (the powers that be) unjudiciously and overzealously tried to persecute Blacks officials. Some were rightfully charged, but to think racism was not an impetus to the investigations is to be naive.

Congressman Diggs from Detroit was brought up on criminal charges of illegal salary-kickbacks in his Congressional Office Staff's payroll-but resigned like DeLay in 1981.

This is one reason for term limits in office. I think Reps should only serve 12 terms (24 years) -the Senators should only serve 3 terms (24 years) and the presidency 3 terms (12 years) this should provide ample time to allow their initiatives to come to light and bear fruit or not. It also allows others to get actively involved in the communities instead of power being concentrated in the hands of a few for longer periods. Twenty-Years on the Job is enough for retirement in the private sector and in the public sector like the postal service or military. So, it seems fair.
