Churches, restaurants start Friday fish fries this week in observance of Lent (4344 hits)

Lent is under way, and that means fish fries and Lenten restaurant specials are popping up everywhere. Around the metro area, plenty of churches (especially Catholic) and fraternal organizations such as the Knights of Columbus have fish fries. Prices are generally reasonable and most benefit programs offered by the churches and organizations.

Restaurants ramp it up, too, with Lenten dinners and fish specials on Fridays, when many diners are avoiding meat.

Here's a sampling of what to expect. The Detroit Archdiocese has a listing of area churches that have fish fries at www.DetroitCatholic.com/FishFry. Although the O’Kelly Knights of Columbus in Dearborn is up for sale, it will continue with its fish fries on Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m.
