Black History Month Events From Oakwood University (3634 hits)

Under the leadership of the Office of the Provost, Oakwood University has planned a variety of activities for the observance of Black History Month 2019.

Events are planned with a strong education component, about the African American experience throughout history. The first program during Chapel on Thursday, February 7, will honor African American Women. Dr. Paula Olivier, Pastor of the Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will be the speaker.

Religious leaders in the African American community will be honored on February 14. The guest speaker will be Dr. Ron Smith, President of the Southern Union of Seventh-day Adventists.

Our students are leading the program on February 21, and Judge Greg Mathis will be the speaker on February 28, where African American law enforcement officers will be highlighted. Community Heroes in each category will be honored each week.

Along with the Provost's Office, the United Student Movement, the Eva B. Dykes Library, and the Department of History & Political Science are collaborating on events ranging from special guest speakers, music and poetry appreciation events and films.
