Alabama State University will present a special evening of dance with the Denver-based Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The event is Thursday (March 15), at 7 p.m. in the Leila Barlow Theater in the Tullibody Fine Arts Building on the ASU campus.

"The internationally esteemed ensemble will present a specially curated evening of dance that will move the spirit and touch the soul," said Michael Medcalf, director of ASU's Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance Program and an acclaimed dancer in his own right. "The ensemble performs a dynamic body of works inspired by the African-American experience and is rooted in ethnic and modern dance traditions worldwide," Medcalf added.

While in residence at Alabama State University (March 12-15), the company will conduct a master class, offer a special workshop for high school students, conduct auditions for the company and perform a morning lecture demonstration.

The event is presented by ASU’s Department of Theatre Arts/BFA Dance Program and made possible with the support of Alabama State University, Alabama State Council on the Arts, South Arts, The Friends of the Theatre, city of Montgomery and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for ASU students with proper ID. Group rates are available.
