Child Abuse (616 hits)

The topic in this week's Blog is Child Abuse. This is loosely defined as the non-accidental injury of a child by an adult. We are not concerned with sibllings (rivalry) fighting it out, and one is hurt as a result, per se. At least a-priori.

Hitting a child with a closed fist or an open hand; shaking an infant until their brain is warped; scolding a child with water; breaking a child's bones-all these are akin to domestic violence of another breed. Who could argue that these atrocities are not domectic violence?

Recently in Michigan, but not necessarily in Detroit this time (Thank God) a caucasian father was accused of hammering his child to death. They tried to ellude the authorities when claims of abuse were raised by moving to another county and hence-out of jurisdiction.

The Michigan Department of Human Services claims they dropped the ball inadvertently and they are working on an improved process by which evasion will be harder to muster.

Last week I spoke about Professional Couples. This is tangetially related. I would argue that professional couples-in the main would not carry-on in such a way. Now, all strata in society have problems, but the difference between loving parents and barbaric ones are degress of professionalism. Not in the business sense, but in the ethical sense.

The pressure can be enormous for single parent moms-but here we have an anomaly-two parents in the home-conducting this heinous crime!!

As ethnic children growing up many of you may be able to identify with a "ma-dear" a granny or just a "ma" who would throw a house shoe at chya and sometimes hit its' target called your noggen-or dome-cranium or head! We have gotten welps from switches-but never a glass dish that could break and cut us (I hope), never a knife that could stab us (God forbid)---maybe a book on the shoulder but there was a line.

The intent was not to maim and then to cover it up-it was to let us know we got on their last nerve and to get the hell out of the house and go play!

We have to be senstitive to abuse if it happens around us-we must report it. I am speaking about broken bones, black eyes, burns, etc...

I second that. We as the adults need to be more alert and know that it is our responsibility to protect children no matter if they are ours or not.

Awesome blog and great to see something so valuable as to the future of the whole world and most precious to "Jesus" used on the internet dispite the devil being the prince of the power of the air and earth.
But God is above all principalities and powers.
Keep up the spread of great knowledge.
That is a priceless gift in itself.

Now Dwight you know that this is my area right here. I have been working in this field since graduating college. All my friends ask me all the time, "How do you work there" and "Girl you be taking people's kids". I tell them all the time, I dont take people's kids, people loose the right to have their children. Day in and day out I see our children being physically abused, emotionally abused and the worst of all,,,,,s*xually abused. Its is heart wrenching to interview a child and they tell you "I wish my father would go away because everytime that he tells me to come here,,,I know what he is going to do. This was a 5 year old girl who was s*xually abused by her step-father and the only reason it was discovered was because the little girl had chlymydia. The mother had it too, but she kept saying to me..... "I didn't think that he would do that to my child, not to mention he also did it to his biological daughter who is 3. I see these children once a week and no matter how many counseling sessions I take them to, I know that this little girl will remember this for the rest of her life. People think that they are doing the right thing by "Minding their business" but when that little boy from next store comes over and ask for something to eat,,, Don't think oh, he just greedy, feed em' because theres probably more going on than what you see. What about the little boy who was killed in NY this year by his mother's boyfriend little Quaishaun? His mother left him with her boyfriend (not his father) and Quashaun accidently knocked the TV off the stand while the boyfriend played his palystation game. Well, he got mad and picked Quashaun up by his ankles and slammed the child repeatingly against the wall.....I don't think you'll getting the picture,,,,,,,,,,by his ankles swinging the child against the wall and you know what the neighbor did,,,,,,she turned her radio up to drown out the noise. I beg my people, report suspected abuse, you dont have to give your name or your information but imagine the lifes that can be saved if someone just helped instead of saying "It ain't my business".

My people child abuse is not soemthing that goes away,,,,,its here and we can talk about the fact that we got our butts whipped when we were younger (I honestly didn't) but it still does not make it right. Discipline is supposed to be used to correct a behavior, not to instill fear or control. I beg everyone who reads this,,, if you ever suspect that a child you know or your kids know is getting abused, for the love of God, make the call. Don't wait to read about the child in the paper and then talk about "what you could've done". Bonita
