Alabama State University Graduates Establish Teacher Education Scholarship (1446 hits)

Dr. Johnny Sanders, Jr., and Dr. Rubye Coleman-Sanders who graduated from Alabama State University with bachelor’s degrees (1970, 1971, respectively) in teacher education, have created a legacy endowed scholarship in their names for first-generation, underrepresented teacher education students, who graduated from Bullock County High School in Union Springs, Alabama.

The scholarship will be funded through the Alabama State University Trust for Educational Excellence Scholarship.

The “Dr. Johnny Sanders, Jr., and Dr. Rubye Coleman-Sanders Teacher Education Scholarship Fund” will provide financial support for a first-generation underrepresented junior or senior undergraduate student who has been admitted to the teacher education program in the College of Education. In addition to the Trust Fund for Teacher Education Scholarship requirements, the student must meet the College of Education Teacher Education Scholarship requirements. Also, the recipient must be a first-generation student of underrepresented populations who plans to teach in underrepresented communities. The scholarship will be renewable, allowing the recipient two years to graduate (if he/she remains in good academic standing).
