Alabama State University Music Department Hosts Two Free Gospel Concerts This Sunday (2734 hits)

WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m. & 7 p.m.

WHERE: Maggie Street Baptist Church (1:30 p.m.) and Shiloh Baptist Church (7 p.m.)

The Music Department at Alabama State University invites all who enjoy gospel music to attend two free 'praise-a-thons' on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Maggie Street Baptist Church and the Shiloh Baptist Church.

At 1:30 p.m., the Maggie Street Baptist Church (located at 642 Maggie Street) will host the ASU Gospel Choir and several other gospel and praise choirs from the tri-county area for the church’s gospel program, titled “What The World Needs Now.” The ASU Gospel Choir will open the program with three well-known gospel works.

At 7 p.m., the Shiloh Baptist Church (located at 452 Cramer Ave.) will feature the ASU University Choir, the ASU Chamber Choir, and ASU's Trebled Soul (a vocal jazz ensemble). The singers will entertain the audience with an upbeat, hour-long performance.

The ASU University Choir, Chamber Choir and ASU Gospel Choir are under the direction of Dr. Kristofer Sanchack, and Mr. Tyrone Hayes directs ASU's Trebled Soul.

The music for both concerts features several genres that fall within the gospel music industry, which includes both contemporary and traditional gospel music.
