How You Can Support First Generation College Students with Denny's and The Tom Joyner Foundation! (12789 hits)

The Tom Joyner Foundation and Denny’s Corporation, franchisor and operator of one of America's largest full-service restaurant chains, are looking for your support for the Tom Joyner Foundation – Denny’s First Generation College Scholarship Fundraiser Road to Success.

You’ve got a chance to help a first-generation college student pursue their dreams – today. If you make a donation, you also can receive a 20% discount coupon from Denny’s and FREE breakfast on your birthday.

Here are three ways you can show your love:
  1. In-person: Go to a local Denny’s, ask them if they are participating in the First Generation Fundraiser. If so, when you check out, ask them to ‘round up’ your check to make a donation. Only Denny’s company-owned stores are participating in this program. If that particular location isn’t participating, that’s OK, you can still support the campaign.
  2. Online: Go to DennysFirstGen.com to make a donation.
  3. Text to Donate: Using a smartphone, text Dennys41444 to make a $10 donation to the fund.

Students at selected HBCUs will be able to apply through their schools for the scholarships later this summer. Here are the other requirements:
  • Eligible students must be a first generation who is registered as a full-time student at an accredited HBCU;
  • Must be a United States citizen;
  • Must have at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Must complete a FAFSA and apply all other awarded grants and scholarships to be considered;

Getting a college education makes a difference in someone’s life. In fact, statistics show that an average worker with a bachelor’s degree can earn $1 million more than a worker without a postsecondary degree. At the Tom Joyner Foundation and at Denny’s, the goal is to create opportunities for students who want a college education, but need all the resources they can get to pursue one.
