Alcorn University’s Extension Program plans Series of Women in Agriculture workshops (1311 hits)

Alcorn State University’s Extension Program is preparing to host a series of workshops that will benefit women in agriculture.

The Women in Agriculture workshops will kick off Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Ray Johnson Assembly Center, located in the Extension and Research Complex on the Lorman campus. The theme for the six-month series is “Getting Back to the Basics.”

The remaining workshops and locations will be announced at a later time. All workshops are free and open to the public.

Agricultural specialists will speak on topics such as livestock and crop production, farm equipment and safety, forestry, estate planning and much more. They will also give hands-on demonstrations during the discussions.

Carolyn Banks, project director for Small Farm Outreach, stressed the importance of the workshops and their ability to inform female farmers.

“The primary goal of the workshops is to provide Mississippi landowners and women in agriculture with the basic skills and necessary tools to help minimize input cost in land management,” said Banks.
