Oakley, Wallace & Robbins Named CIAA 60th Anniversary Team
Former Virginia Union University players Charles Oakley and Ben Wallace as well as current men's head coach Dave Robbins have been named to the Ford CIAA 60th Anniversary All-Tournament Team.
Oakley, who played for VUU from 1981-85, still holds the freshman scoring record with 33 points against Coppin State as well as the all-time school record for rebounds with 1,666 boards. After finishing his collegiate career, Oakley went on to a 16-year career in the National Basketball Association with several teams.
Wallace, currently an NBA All-Star with the Detroit Pistons, set school a school record with 114 blocks. He was a member of the 2003-04 NBA Champion Pistons and has twice been named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year.
Robbins has been the Panthers' coach for the past 27 seasons. During that time he has won 630 games, two national championships, six NCAA regional titles and 12 CIAA championships.
The 60th Anniversary Team, consisting of 10 CIAA greats and three coaches, was determined by vote totals from CIAA fans via the tournament web site, CIAA presidents, CIAA Hall of Fame members, CIAA athletic directors and the national media.
The team will be honored during halftime of the men's championship game on March 5.
