A-List Celebs Slack in Supporting Troops: Indie Acts Come Through to Boost Morale-
Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) has just selected The Fuzz Band to tour parts of Southwest Asia in an effort to provide musical relief to the US armed forces. The tour, which includes performances in countries such as Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Djibouti, and the United Arab Emirates, will be headlined by The Fuzz Band over the course of an extensive three week stay.
According to a recent USA Today article, celebrity volunteers for USO tours have been extremely limited due to “the dangers in Iraq along with some stars’ disagreements with the Bush administration’s war policies.”
“Members of The Fuzz Band agreed to tour in such dangerous and life-threatening locations to help uplift the morale of troops through good music,” said band manager Paul Saunders.
The Fuzz Band, whose sound is a fusion of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Rock, and Classical music, has just agreed to volunteer their services to the AFE’s touring circuit The band will travel as honorary military personnel for the tour which begins Feb. 20 and concludes on or about March 10.
The AFE coordinates celebrity shows, and produces tours for unsigned artists in collaboration with the United Services Organization (USO). Captain Jesse Davidson, AFE’s Southwest Asia Circuit Manager noted that “The Fuzz Band was accepted into the program out of thousands of applicants and further selected for this tour form over 200 entertainment groups that are a part of the program.”
“God is ordering our steps, and He wants us to be there right now, so we’ll go,” said John Stratford, bass player. “It is just our small way of giving back to the united efforts to support our armed forces.”-
