GREENSBORO, NC -- WFMY News 2 viewer Shanell Brown got her son a birthday present he'll always remember!
Her son, Ayden James, turned 4 Tuesday and she wanted to get him a great gift! He's loved drums since he was one. He already has his own snare drum and has what she calls an obsession with the North Carolina A&T State Drum Line, Cold Steel. In an email to WFMY News 2, she said "Every day we would drive by NCAT campus and he'll say "mommy that's A&T, I'm going there and to Dudley." So she decided to ask the band to surprise him.
So she reached out to a former Cold Steel drummer and he gave her contacts on how to make it happen. They made the phone calls and confirmed the time and date!
On the day of the party, Tuesday, the section leader called Brown to let her know they were about to pull up! So Ayden's father, Anthony James, took him in the house until everyone was ready. The drum line lined up in the middle of the street, dad brought Ayden outside, and the magic began! They ended the show by letting Ayden play on some of their drums, giving Ayden his own official Cold Steel drum sticks, and inviting him to the Band Blowout this Saturday.
Brown said Ayden was shocked and the whole neighborhood came out. She said, "This is one of the many reasons I love #NCAT for always satisfying their community!"
