Mr. David Johns, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans (WHIEEAA) delivered remarks at the 96th American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention (AACC) in Chicago this morning.
Mr. Johns spoke about the role that two year institutions play in supporting post-secondary support for African Americans. He also highlighted the President's Advisory Commission on Education Excellence for African American's interest in celebrating the role of two-year institutions in supporting African American students.
The AACC is committed to advancing the recognition of the role of community colleges in serving society today by providing advocacy, leadership and service for community colleges. The AACC represents and advocates for nearly 1,200 associate-degree granting institutions enrolling more than 13 million students—almost half of all U.S. undergraduates

Question: Are remedial classes a hidden cost of college? According to an article appearing in the Washington Post on April 6, 2016, by Danielle Douglas-Gabriel, "One in four students have to enroll in remedial classes their first year of college, costing their families nearly $1.5 billion, according to a study released Wednesday by Education Reform Now, a think tank."
