The Johnson C. Smith University Campus Police Department, in partnership with the Charlotte Division of the FBI, will host the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program Monday March 21, 2016 and Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
ALERRT, developed and housed at Texas State University, is part of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) VALOR program. ALERRT has trained more than 60,000 law enforcement first responders in a response protocol adopted by the FBI as the national standard for special agent tactical instructors. The training includes classroom instruction and tactical scenarios.
Local officers from the Johnson C. Smith University Campus Police Department, UNC Charlotte Police Department, Davidson College Campus Police Department, and the Queens University Police Department will take part in next week’s training. The training will take place on the JCSU campus in Myers Hall. Students and neighbors have been notified about the training exercise.
The media is invited to attend a portion of the training on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Please arrive on the campus located at 100 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte at 12:00 pm. Check in with security and ask to be directed to Myers Hall where you will be met by Shelley Lynch, FBI Charlotte’s public affairs specialist, before attending a safety briefing and taping a short portion of the training scenario. FBI instructors, JCSU Police Chief Debra Duncan and JCSU leaders will be available for interview.
