On November 15, 2014, Fisk University President, Dr. H. James Williams, was honored with a “Living Legend” award in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Annual Living Legends Awards Dinner, sponsored by HBCU Promotions, is a statewide event that honors outstanding alumni of the eleven Historically Black Colleges and Universities in North Carolina. Dr. Williams earned his baccalaureate degree in accounting at North Carolina Central University and is a native of Winston-Salem.
President Williams delivered the keynote address at this year’s event. He focused on the national importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their sustainability. Among his key points were that “as institutions, we must live within our means, develop new revenue streams, and provide programming to address the needs of our 21st century students and their prospective employers.”
