Like top corporations such as Google, the Jackson State University College of Business is reorganizing to meet its “strategic goals and objectives,” according to Dean Ramin Maysami.

Three administrators are taking on new roles to form a College of Business Office of External Relations.

In addition, a new Office of Research and Faculty Development is being formed, requiring a shift in personnel. Dr. J. R. Smith, current chair of the Management and Marketing Department, will serve as director.

The external relations office will include:

-- A Center for Executive Education, Sponsored Research and Community Relations. It will take over and augment activities of the Center for Business Development and Economic Research. Dr. Lurlene Irvin will serve as director.

-- Center for Career Management, Alumni Affairs, and Corporate Relations. It will take over and augment activities of the Career Management and Placement Center. Lori Swanier will serve as director.

The College of Business Development will work with these center directors, coordinating fund-raising and activities. Charles King will serve in this role, Maysami said.

In this way, Maysami said, the college “will embark on a stake-holder driven strategic planning process where, based on feedback from the faculty, students and administration and the business community, the mission, vision and strategic goals and objectives of the college of business will be established.”
