Former President of Bennett College is Honored with Naming Ceremony (1646 hits)

The Bennett College Board of Trustees is hosting a Naming Ceremony for the Pfeiffer Heating Plant that houses the Journalism and Media Studies Program. The Julianne Malveaux Journalism and Media Studies Building will be unveiled following the College’s ceremony of matriculation for new students, Convocatum Est.

As the 15th President of Bennett College, Dr. Julianne Malveaux was the architect of an exciting and innovative transformation at Bennett College, America’s oldest historically black college for women. During her tenure, the administration focused on four key areas for development: women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, excellence in communications, and global awareness. Dr. Malveaux led the successful 10-year reaffirmation of Bennett College’s accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; noticeably improved existing facilities including the renovation of the Pfeiffer Heating Plant; and embarked on a $21 million capital improvements program – marking the first major campus construction in more than 25 years and included the Wellness Complex, the Martin Dixon Intergenerational Center/Children’s House, a 144-bed honors residence hall, and the Global Learning Center which has a 200-seat auditorium, classroom space, and space the community uses for special events.

Participants:
President Rosalind Fuse-Hall, 17th President, Bennett College
Dr. Julianne Malveaux
Deborah Foster, Chair, Bennett College Board of Trustees
NOTE: There will be opportunities for photo ops and one-on-one interviews

Date: Thursday, August 28, 2014
Time: 12:00 noon (immediately following Convocatum Est at 11:00 a.m.)

Bennett College is a small, private, historically black, liberal arts college for women, one of only two in the country. The college offers women an education conducive to excellence in scholarly pursuits; preparation for leadership roles in the workplace, society, and the world; and life-long learning in a technologically advanced, complex global society. As a United Methodist Church-related institution, Bennett College promotes morally grounded maturation, intellectual honesty, purposeful public service, and responsible civic action. The college welcomes students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
