Lucille M Brown (4581 hits)


Lucille M. Brown is a 1950 magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Union University where she received her bachelor's degree. She is an honors graduate of Howard University, and has completed additional graduate studies at Virginia State and Virginia Commonwealth Universities, and the University of Virginia.

Dr. Brown began her teaching career in Fairfax, Va. and continued her career at Armstrong High School in Richmond, where she became principal in 1974. Dr. Brown became an assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Richmond Public Schools in 1985, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in 1989, and Superintendent in 1991.

Dr. Brown is a member of the Virginia Union University Board of Trustees, Board of Heroes Foundation and the Black History Museum and Cultural Center. Her other memberships include the James River Valley Chapter of The Links Inc., Board of Directors for the Educational Advancement Foundation, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Brown has received numerous awards, including the "Lifetime Achievement Award," from the Urban League of Greater Richmond, the "Flame Bearer of Excellence Award," from the United Negro College Fund, and the "Distinguished Alumna" Award from Virginia Union University.
