There is an old adage that if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all. It seems as if someone needs to remind our elected officials that working together for the greatest good is better than futile acts that do little other than delay the will of the people.
As we approach the date of October 1, members from both sides of the aisle have begun to ramp up their rhetoric and antics in order to prove that their side is right when it comes to the Affordable Care Act which is also known as Obama Care.
Some want to postpone the implementation for a year. “We will do our job and send this bill over, and then it’s up to the Senate to pass it and stop a government shutdown,” House GOP leaders said in a joint statement.
Others have said enough already and it is time to give all Americans access to quality health care. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said that Republicans are displaying ”rampant irresponsibility” when it comes to a potential Oct. 1 shutdown.
“By the way, we won this debate in the election,” Hoyer said.
He added, ”But (Republicans) refuse to accept the results of the election.”
Millions of federal employees run the risk of not being paid and government parks and services would also experience a stoppage. The irony is that members of Congress will be paid regardless.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said , “After weeks of futile political games from Republicans, we are still at square one: Republicans must decide whether to pass the Senate’s clean (bill), or force a Republican government shutdown.”
“We’re getting closer to a shutdown, but if the Senate acts as quick as it’s capable we can avoid that. Let’s see what they send back to us,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma. “We’re working the process the way we’re supposed to work it.”
October 1 is this week and many Americans are hoping that this is resolved before citizens have to pay for the childish antics of their elected officials.
