Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - Jack and Jill of America Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has recently announced a donation of $150,000 to aid Katrina Relief efforts. This donation is made possible by the membership of Jack and Jill of America, with members in more than 216 chapters, representing over 8,000 families. Since its inception in 1968, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation has distributed millions of dollars to communities all across America.

The devastation resulting from Hurricane Katrina affected all Americans. The disaster forced individuals and organizations to identify ways they could help their fellow Americans in this time of need. "As a Foundation, we wanted to continue to support programs than empower young people and their future," says Grace Speights, President, Jack and Jill Foundation of America. "Using this as a guide, the Foundation decided to provide aid to students enrolled at Historically Black Colleges and Universities who were displaced by Katrina."

The Jack and Jill of America Foundation is donating $50,000 to the Tom Joyner Foundation. This donation will support displaced students who have transferred from Dillard, Southern and Xavier University to another college or university. Financial support in the form of $1,000 grants are being made available per student to assist with tuition, books, and room and board by the Tom Joyner Foundation. The Jack and Jill Foundation will present a check to the Tom Joyner Foundation on November 18, 2005 at the Tom Joyner Sky Show in Philadelphia, PA.

Spelman College will also receive a donation of $50,000 from the Jack and Jill Foundation to assist students from areas devastated by the hurricane. Over 100 students who have transferred to Spelman from Dillard or Xavier University will receive financial support through an emergency scholarship fund supported by this donation. The Foundation has also earmarked an additional $50,000 to aid children affected or displaced by Katrina.

"Jack and Jill Foundation is honored to partner with such respected and committed organizations like The Tom Joyner Foundation and Spelman College. This donation provides no quick fix to the many who are suffering, but collectively we can help African American students displaced by Katrina continue their education," said Alice Peoples, National President of Jack and Jill of America Inc.

The Foundation's contributions and activities match the stated philanthropic interests of the Jack and Jill of America membership. To that end, the Foundation's giving continues to be directed to organizations and communities that are helping children, youth, and young adults reach their fullest potential. The Foundation accepts grant applications from organizations without discrimination as to age, race, disability, religion, s*x, or national origin. However, all applicants must operate in a manner consistent with the Foundation's purpose, mission and vision.
