North Carolina Central University graduate student Christopher Jones has been selected as one of six national winners of the 14th annual John McLendon Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Award, announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation.
A native of Goldsboro, N.C., Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from NCCU in 2009, and is currently enrolled in NCCU’s athletics administration graduate program while serving as a graduate assistant in the Department of Athletics.

Once Jones finishes his master’s degree, he hopes to pursue work in the field of athletics administration and eventually obtain a doctoral degree.

The other five scholarship award winners are William Baggett, University of Mississippi; Dymond Bush, Hampton University; Jasmine Edwards, Rutgers University; Faimie Kingsley, University of Denver; and Tracie Sneed, Jacksonville University.

Each of the winners receives a $10,000 grant to be used towards postgraduate studies in athletics administration. Funding for the scholarship program has been provided in part by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA); the Cleveland Cavaliers; Major League Baseball (MLB); the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC); the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA); the National Basketball Association (NBA); the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA); and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
The scholarship award is named in honor of legendary NCCU basketball coach and Naismith hall of famer John McLendon.
