This is a column I wrote in the 3/10/05 edition of the Gramblinite. Feedback will be greatly appreciated...
Normally, I write columns concerning issues that I think are important. This time, I will write a column thanking those who have helped me in life.
I’d like to thank those that give The Gramblinite harsh criticism, whether we do something good or bad. I’d like to thank those that have made us feel like the paper isn’t anything good.
Thank you ... to the women that have hurt me over my life. Thank you so much for making a brother wonder if he wasn’t boyfriend material. Special thanks to those who have spread rumors around about me, making my life worse than it already is. Yes, I give you thanks for not going out with me.
I thank you for telling me you had something to do, but in actuality, you didn’t. It’s cool. What goes around comes around ... but thank you.
However, I’d like to thank the women in my life that have made me feel good about myself. Those that have told me be strong and hold on, thank you. Thank you so much for giving me the confidence I needed to hold my head up high.
Oh thank you for those teachers that have helped me out. Thank you for letting me absorb some useful knowledge that is not in the book. I also give thanks to those teachers that lied to me in my face and told me everything was cool when it was not. Funny how you can preach one thing, and live another.
Those that have had me up crying at night due to pain, thank you. Thank you for making my life a living hell out of animosity. I thank you for adding on to the grief of my already hard-to-live life. Thank you so much for being an idiot.
If you have ever made a deaf crack, thank you. Thank you for calling me the “kid with the big ears that doesn’t hear anything.” Thank you for not going out with me because I wear hearing aids. Oh, I can’t thank you enough for telling everyone but me.
I can’t forget to thank my dear so-called “friends.” I’d like to thank those that have really been there for me and supported me to the end. I thank the five of you. Surely, I’d like to thank the ones that give me a call only when they need help with homework or have a favor to ask.
Gee, I can’t forget to thank those adults that told me I would be nothing when I grew up. Thank you for telling me that I was a pile of manure that would only be as useful as a fly. You are greatly appreciated.
Special thanks goes out to those with high positions that showed me how to bend the rules, but not break them. It was nice of you to show me how easy it is to manipulate Grambling’s students who don’t care where 95% of their money goes.
I’d like to thank those that read this column. Thanks goes out to those that will greet with me positive comments. I even thank those that will flip me off or stop being my “friend.” Even those that will act like this column never saw the light of day...thank you.
Before I go, I would like to finally thank the one creator in my life, whoever he/she may be. Thank you for creating a genius who has seen the worst and best of life.
