50 Years of the Dream
by Asher Lewis
Posted Jan 18th, 2013

2013 will mark the 50th anniversary of one of the most moving and poignant events of the last century - the delivery of the “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. have inspired millions across the world since they day they were spoken on August 8, 1963.

Hello Mr. Culpepper,

You are wrong! Dr. King’s greatest speech was his last speech when he said that God allowed him to go to the mountain top and when he looked over he saw us Black Americans in the promise land. He went on to say that he may not get there with us, but we as a people will get to the promise land.

His mountain top speech he had mature in knowledge, wisdom and understanding compare to his dream speech years earlier. His mountain top included God, but his dream speech did not because it was a dream or desire for good, right and justice. But, his mountain top he was certain and was not dreaming.

I am the Chosen One that the mountain top speech will come to past through. Dr. King was one of my forerunners.

Pay attention to the things that I say!

Can’t you think?

@Harry

Please keep in mind that I post a lot of content on this site that has been sent to me to post. If you actually go to the video on the YouTube site (by clicking the Youtube logo on the video), you will see that the same text that is posted is also on their site - they are not my own words. Though I am not arguing your point on what is his greatest speech (and I have no problem with what you believe is his greatest speech), and I have no issue with what the originator of the Youtube video believes is his greatest speech ... I hope you will be able to refrain from comments like your last sentence, which is very condescending and something I'm sure the entire site can do without.

Mr. Culpepper,

The bottom line of your responds is that you want to take a neutral stand on the blog you posted giving various excuses for posting of which I am not buying.

I think that you are backing away from your responsibility to support what you posted because you see that I am right that Dr. King’s Dream speech is nothing in comparison to his Mountain Top speech and you don’t want of admit that I am right, but that is okay.

In addition, you are unjust since you toke a neutral stand on your blog, but you gave your self away when you cited me for being condescending. To be fair your neutral stand should not have included your comment of being condescending am I right.

Don’t take any shots at me if I can’t take any shots at you and that is just and fair, don’t you think?

@Harry

I'm going to say this and leave it alone. First, who attacked who first? Please start from the top and work your way down to the comments section and let me know who took the first shot. Your first comment was ok with me until the last sentence, which I deem as a "shot" to me. Please check your writings before accusing me of taking shots at you in retaliation of me taking one at you. You pretty much started it Harry.

Second, It is my right to take whatever stand I want against any issue there is in the world. If I support something, then it is my right to do so. If I don't support something, it is my right to do so. If I want to stay neutral ... guess? Yup! It is my right to do so.

You can debate all you want, I just ask that you chill out on the insults especially when you start the attack of words, like you did here. It does not promote any healthy discussions NOR does it make anyone want to seriously support things you say.

Third, I think both speeches were wonderful by MLK. Which is the best ever? You have your opinion, I have mine. You stated your case, and that is fine with me - again let's chill on the insults brother Harry. It does no one any good.

Lastly, When I used the term "condescending" - it was geared toward your comment "Can’t you think?" - that is condescending.

Dr. King did not sacrifice himself for his dream speech. Any intelligent person would know that.
Dr. King sacrificed himself for his very last speech, THE MOUNTIAN TOP speech were in he said that God allowed him to go to the mountain top and when he looked over he saw Black Americans in our Promise Land and that we as a people is going to get to the Promise Land even though he may not get there with us.

And, this is the speech that is to be paid attention too.

However, I live in the south...

When slaves were transported to the Americas... they were listed as Cargo...

((“The Negroes are packed bellow in as dense a mass as possible for human being to be crowded; the space allotted them being in general about four feet high between decks, there, of course, can be but little ventilation given. These (unfortunate creatures) are obliged to tend to the calls of nature in this place – tubs being provided for the purpose – and her they pass their days, their nights, amidst the most horridly offensive odors of which the mind can conceive, and this under the scorching heat of the tropical sun, without room enough for sleep, with scarcely space to die in…” (Lt.T.A.M. Craven)))

sounds pretty InHumane to me...

Cynthia,

Our conversation is the Mountain Top speech and its meaning. The topic is not about Dr. King In addition, I’ve already told you that Dr. King could not have been a prophet to Black Americans because he followed behind the Jewish Jesus.
Our prophet or our lord and savior must be a Black American as we are. We can not have any one at the head of our lives that is of a different race from us. Do you understand that?

Also Cynthia, the people on the slave ships were pure African people from different parts of Africa. They deserve every bit of here horrible conditions just like the Native American Indians because they did not learn especially how to protect themselves and other thing like White people did. So, that should tell you how important it is to be intelligent in all the sciences. At the end of the day, we Black Americans are not African people.

Cynthia,

You are thinking stupidly to say on an open forum you are speaking only to this person. We are to benefit from each other because both you and Robert could be wrong am I right.

You are generally speaking to every one, but particularly you are speaking to Robert. You think like a stupid individual Negro would think. You should be thinking communal. And, if there is a problem with what I am saying then you have e-mail am I right. So, let us stop this wrong way of thinking and come together on all of our differences and iron them out, okay.

If you are going to be fair and up-right you need to attach why I said that the Africans and the Native American Indians got what they deserved since they did not bother to advance the quality of their lives while the White people across the ocean were advancing themselves. Nature deal a crushing blow to both the Africans and Indians through White people.
So, naturally moving forward you should put a lot of inference on being mentally bright am I right.

Despite how stupid we are now not long from now Black Americans are going to become very, very bright people because the ones that chooses to be bright will separate themselves from those that want to remain stupid. That is an example of God separating the wheat from the tare and the goats from the sheep.

Steve,

The theme of this blog has not change. Since the same man wrote both speech and you all are putting undeserved inference on the Dream speech and I knowing better I introduced to you the Mountain Top speech giving more light to you all than what you have by comparing the two speeches by the same one person and you will see how Dr. King constantly was evolving in knowledge, wisdom and understanding of his thoughts as the years past.

For instance, not long before the Mountain Top speech Dr. King was discussing with Harry Bellefonte that he, Dr. King was wondering if he was leading his people into an already burning house.
In other words, Dr. King was wondering if integration was wise. Then the Mountain Top speech came and Dr. King saw because God showed him that since Moses did not venture to integrate the Children of Israel into the Egypt then he, Dr. King is wrong to integrate Black Americans into White America.
What God did was gave the Children of Israel a country of their own and God showed Dr. King that Black Americans will get a country of our own as well and that is why Dr. King said that we Black Americans as a people will get to the Promise Land. Our Promise Land is a reasonable and fertile portion of this continent and I’ve out lined and just where our Promise Land is going to be am I right.

You all don’t have the divine vision that I have because I am our prophet.

So, we are still on course Steve except that I am infusing light into this discussion am I right.

What say you?

David,

I think the problem with you is that you want to have your way and exclude my way, but my way is stronger than your way and that is what’s making you up set so you would like to eliminate me.

But, that is not fair because we are all equally presenting the strength of our intelligence and this is a web site open to all and my intelligence is stronger than yours and you don’t like it.
But, man-up and recognize that you have many short comings. You are not the man that I am. God anointed me and not you as Black America’s first genuine prophet so, I should have much more intelligence than you have and it is for the good of all of us Black Americans.

You will not and can not look better by wanting to eliminate me. You must accept me as all of us must accept each other in time to come and work together to improve the quality of our lives am I right. we are all Black Americans and we are all subjugated people want to be a sovereign people in a country of our own.

That is my program and what is your program?

There is no science in the things that you say, but there is a lot of science in the things that I say. You are simply whining and complaining because I am smarter than you are and I am suppose to be smarter because I am our first genuine prophet.

You are unable to say that I am wrong about anything I’ve said am I right. You need to join me.

You are not living in a real world. You are living in a world that White America has set aside for us Black Americans to live in. You don’t have your own religion. You have the religion of White American. You have not accepted your own prophet. You have the prophets of White America. So, how honest are you to say that you live in a real world. You live in the world of White American am I right.

ROBERT POWELL ,,seems to me you missed the mark and you need to re read the subject ,,LET ME GET THAT FOR YOU ,,,

SUBJECT is: 50 Years of the Dream,,,,,, 50th anniversary of one of the most moving and poignant events of the last century - the delivery of the “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and on the day President Barack Obama is often referred to on social media by the N-word. Some white college students still dress in blackface at Halloween and many black parents say that well into the 21st century, they still feel they must give their kids “the talk” about how to avoid raising the suspicions of police or others in authority.
Last year was marked by the shooting death of black Florida teenager Trayvon Martin as the youngster walked to his father’s home. And in North Texas, authorities in Lewisville say race may have been a factor in the separate shootings — one fatally — this month of two black men. Police arrested an Asian man, who said the victims looked “suspicious” to him.
This comes 50 years after Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington and the assassination of John F. Kennedy in Dallas and 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. These incidents also occurred after the election of America’s first black president, who on Monday — while much of the nation pauses to celebrate the King holiday — will be publicly inaugurated into his second term.
Despite that historic achievement and many other notable gains by black Americans, some historians, sociologists and others lament that race and racism remain immovable and odious stigmas in this country. And it has them questioning whether King’s 1963 vision of an America where his children “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” will ever become reality.
“On the surface people talk about the dream being fulfilled,” said Julianne Malveaux, a political commentator and economist. “But go just below the surface and you’ll see that’s not true at all.”
Malveaux noted that there are still huge disparities between blacks and whites economically, educationally and in other areas. She said she believes racism has played, and will continue to play, a large role in those discrepancies.
“Race is America’s sticking point,” said Malveaux, a former president of Bennett College for Women. “Nobody wants to deal with it, but it is what it is. Both black and white people are uncomfortable with it, and until both sides can become comfortable dealing with it, nothing will change.”
When Obama addressed the families of the Connecticut school shooting victims, he did so on a Sunday night. His speech briefly interrupted the broadcast of the football game between the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers, and many viewers took to social media to spew hate-filled vitriol about it.
“Take that n----- off the tv, we want to watch football!” University of North Alabama football player Bradley Patterson wrote from his Twitter account. Patterson, a walk-on, was subsequently dismissed from the team for his post. He later apologized, stating that he was not a racist.
He was far from alone — that night or in previous online discussions about the president. On the night Obama was re-elected, social media exploded with a barrage of racial epithets about him, including this angry Facebook post from a 22-year-old California woman.
“Another 4 years of this n-----,” Denise Helms wrote. “Maybe he will get assassinated this term.”
In a subsequent interview with a Sacramento television station, Helms acknowledged that wanting the president killed was “kind of harsh,” but she added that “if it was to happen, I don’t think I’d care one bit.” She eventually deactivated her Facebook page, but not before using it to deny being a racist.
“Apparently a lot of people in Sacramento think I’m crazy and racist,” Helms wrote in a follow-up post. “WOW is all I got to say!! I’m not racist and I’m not crazy. just simply stating my opinion.!!!”
The aggressive nature of such missives has raised the concerns of many cultural observers who say Obama’s election in 2008 turned up the volume levels of racial hatred.
Marvin Dulaney, chair of the history department at the University of Texas at Arlington, said many in the country are suffering from what he calls the “painful demise of white supremacy.” Dulaney said he believes that many, if not most, of the outspoken racists in the country today feel empowered by leaders in Washington who stubbornly oppose the president.
“Barack Obama’s election may have spurred this thought among some whites that they’re losing status in American society,” Dulaney said. “His election may have happened too soon, before some whites could adjust to it.”
“They cannot accept the fact that a black man is leading the country,” added Dulaney, who acknowledged that he didn’t initially back Obama and was “absolutely shocked” at his election. “To have a black man as president, it upsets everything they have come to believe in,” he said.
Jim Downs, associate professor of history at Connecticut College, said he also sees virulent racism in the country. But he said that type of behavior might be easier to address than the hidden forms of racism that are not readily apparent or ignored.
Downs said that in popular movies blacks are still often portrayed in subservient or inferior roles that he said perpetuate the stereotype that they shouldn’t aspire to higher, more intellectually demanding positions. Even at the college level, he said, he still encounters students from inner-city New York who don’t believe that they can get jobs in fields such as medicine, law or engineering.
“We’re living in an era based on Jim Crow segregation,” said Downs, who specializes in African-American studies. “Those economic problems of a hundred years ago are still weighing us down today. So let’s change the terms of the debate. We’re talking about politics … but you have black mothers in New York who can’t get a flu shot for their kids because pharmacies in black areas won’t provide them.
“It’s hard for you to talk about whether King’s dream is a reality yet when you’re just worried about whether your kids can even survive from day to day,” he said.
Brenda Wall, a Dallas psychologist and ordained minister, has witnessed the racism of late herself and said she’s very much aware that, 45 years after King was assassinated, America still has not overcome.
Yet she remains hopeful that the country is headed in the right direction and will eventually achieve King’s dream of racial equality. But she said the struggle will not be easy.
“Absolutely, it’s realistic. Dr. Martin Luther King did not die in vain,” Wall said. “The work of President Obama is not in vain. It has been very harsh, the racism in this country has been very harsh. Enslavement and captivity has been very harsh.
“But faith is stronger than fear, and the kind of work we’re doing continues to move forward,” she said. “We will see the peace and the justice because the work goes forward.”
Wall said that one problem that many blacks and whites fell prey to was a false belief after Obama’s election to his first term that America had become a post-racial society, where the color of a person’s skin had no bearing on what they could achieve.
“They thought … that we had arrived, but we have not arrived,” Wall said. “The struggle for us is to be anchored in truth and reality and not in materialism.”
Dulaney, though, is skeptical. He said that he believes the current divisive racial climate will improve only after Obama leaves office and even then, things will only “go back to normal and we’ll know racism exists but it will be hidden.”
Wall fights that notion, however, and said that for her, King’s dream is well within view.
“I hope you don’t think evil is stronger than truth,” she said. “I hope you don’t think that a racist is stronger than we are. It has been a horrible experience for 400 years but let’s … look to the future. Our work is not complete, but we will win.”

Martin Luther King Day is a day to remember the struggle for peace and racial equality. In the current 21st century, racism has yet to be eradicated, however our nation has come a long ways.

Exactly 50 years ago civil rights activist, Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. helped organize the march on Washington, where on August 28, 1963 he delivered his 17-minute, “I have a Dream” speech. Calling to end racism within the United States, Doctor King spoke to 200,000 civil rights supporters who all came to listen.

Yesterday, on the eve of Martin Luther King Day, the first African American President of the United States got sworn into office for a second term. In a simple ceremony held in the Blue Room of the White House and only before few family members, Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to the 44th President.

In 1963, Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that America was a land of opportunity for every individual, regardless of the color of his or her skin:
“We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.”

Perhaps, this country still has a long way to go in respects to growth and available opportunity for every individual. However, today we are closer to Doctor King’s vision for this nation than ever before, as today we celebrate Martin Luther King Day with the hope that we are that much closer to racial equality.

David,

Dr. King saw that racial equality by nature and God will in not possible and he expressed this knowledge and understanding in his Mountain Top speech.

If racial equality was permitted by nature and God will then Moses would have push for racial equality in Egypt rather than the Exodus am I right.

Stop being stupid and think a little it would help.

And, technically speaking Black Americans still belongs to White Americans and don’t have the same equality and justice as Whites share amongst themselves and we see this inequality and injustice play out in all phases of the lives of Black Americans for the past 500 years and that makes it a racial issue and not an equality or justice issue. This racial issue can only be remedy by the sovereignty of Black Americans.

Consequentially, there will be an Exodus of Black Americans crossing over into our Promise Land. Our Promise is from the northern borders of N.C. into the Gulf of Mexico and from the Mississippi River into the Atlantic Ocean.

Black America’s permanent solution is the same as the Children of Israel they had to leave Egypt is I right.

The fight for equality and justice for Black Americans ended when I was anointed Black America’s first genuine prophet. Everything that I say is going to happen in my life-time.

Don’t you think that after 500 years and still no equality and justice it is time to chance directions am I right. This is a RACIAL issue and it always has been a RACIAL issue and as long as Black Americans is living in the country of White America it will always be a RACIAL that is how nature made it out to be.

Black bears and Brown bears don’t live together because they are RACIALLY different. Ravens and Crows don’t fly together either because they too are RACIALLY different.

Get my point?

Why it is that I have an IQ of 68 and I can see these things and I always offers up the science and scholarship that Black America’s problem has always been RACIAL and you with a higher IQ than mines can’t see what I see. You are not as smart as you think that you are am I right.

Hello Harry,

"Black bears and Brown bears don’t live together because they are RACIALLY different. Ravens and Crows don’t fly together either because they too are RACIALLY different."

So you believe there is a Brown bear race and a Black bear race and a Raven bird race and a Crow bird race. Interesting Harry.

In scientific terms I think they are called species.

Hello Steve,

I’ll begin and say I like and appreciate what you presented to me now I have to explain myself.

It was a psychological wake up call for your eyes to see and your brain to comprehend that even though bears are categorized as animals and people are categorized as humans it is apparent the physical differences between a Brown bear and a Black bear would be the equivalent in human beings to be racial differences.

This conversation with you is idiotic because you are mentally handicap. You can’t see the differences in a Black and a Brown bear because all you see is two bears and if there were third Grizzle bear you would see three bears not knowing the differences between them all and it there were four Polar bear your dumb stupid ass still would think that because you see four bears they are all the same one kind of bears, you are inherently stupid.

You are so stupid that God would not have given you the honors to name the animals as Adam was because your stupid ass would name everything the same you are stupid!

Hello Harry,

I'm aware of the differences between Black Bears and Polar Bears. The Brown Bear and the Grizzly Bear are the same species but the Brown Bear lives in Alaska and gets bigger because it has lots of Salmon to eat. However Humans are all of the same species so your parallel between Bears and Humans is not accurate.

Sunday, January 27th 2013 at 5:56PM
Steve Williams
For instance Polar Bears swim in freezing ocean waters and Black Bears do not, and Black Bears climb trees but Polar Bears do not, and that is a more important difference than their color.

Steve Williams
Hello Steve,

I can not go any further with you since you are unable to recognize the profound physical differences in these bears.

I suggest that you go to your nearest college, high school or university in the science dept. and ask the teacher if a Black, Brown, Polar and Grizzly bears are the same as a Brown bear is to another Brown bear.

You need not reply to this because I can’t go any further.

In biological classification, subspecies (abbreviated "subsp." or "ssp."; plural: "subspecies") is either a taxonomic rank subordinate to species, or a taxonomic unit in that rank. A subspecies cannot be recognized in isolation: a species will either be recognized as having no subspecies at all or two or more (including any that are extinct), never just one.

Organisms that belong to different subspecies of the same species are capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring, but they often do not interbreed in nature due to geographic isolation or other factors. The differences between subspecies are usually less distinct than the differences between species, but more distinct than the differences between breeds or races (races can be assigned to different subspecies if taxonomically different). The characteristics attributed to subspecies generally have evolved as a result of geographical distribution or isolation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subspecies

The species homo sapiens has two subspecies.

†Homo sapiens idaltu White et al., 2003
Homo sapiens sapiens

Homo sapiens idaltu is extinct. That leaves only Homo sapiens sapiens, i.e. Humans.

Harry,

The part I want you to pay attention to is this:

"The differences between subspecies are usually less distinct than the differences between species, but more distinct than the differences between breeds or races (races can be assigned to different subspecies if taxonomically different)."

Logically then, races cannot be assigned if there are no subspecies.

Vulpes vulpes (Red fox)

As of 2005,[8] 45 subspecies are recognised. In 2010, another possible distinct subspecies was discovered in Sacramento Valley through mitochondrial haplotype studies.[20]

Substantial gene pool mixing between different subspecies is known; British red foxes have crossbred extensively with foxes imported from Germany, France, Belgium, Sardinia, and possibly Siberia and Scandinavia.[21] European foxes were introduced to portions of the USA in the 18th century, thus crossbreeding with local North American populations.[22] Also, introduced eastern red foxes in California may be interbreeding with local V. v. necator populations.[23] Red fox subspecies are divided into two categories:[9]

Northern foxes are large and brightly coloured.

Southern grey desert foxes include the Asian subspecies V. v. griffithi, V. v. pusilla and V. v. flavescens. These foxes display transitional features between northern red foxes and smaller fox species; their skulls possess more primitive, neotenous traits than the northern forms,[16] and are also much smaller; the maximum sizes attained by southern foxes are invariably less than the average sizes of northern foxes. Their limbs are also longer, and their ears larger.[24]

Red foxes living in Middle Asia show physical traits intermediate to the northern and southern forms.[25]

Hello Steve,

Race does not imply sub-anything. Race is race and the definition of race is in the dictionary, stupid. This world is racially diverse and not one race is above another in the eyes of God.

The principle of what I am saying played out in the story of Moses and Pharaoh. Two different races, but God was helping one race out of the oppression of another race.

Now, if what you are saying make sense that there is no such thing as race then how the hell God would know to help the Children of Israel over the oppression of the Egyptian? How would the 10th plague (the angel of death) know to Passover the Israelites and kill the first born of anything of the Egyptian people if race wasn’t a big factor.

You are stupid and I hate arguing something as obvious as racial diversity.

Harry,

The definition I gave above is from the Encyclopedia, under the heading Subspecies.

What you said could be written like this instead:

The principle of what I am saying played out in the story of Moses and Pharaoh. Two different peoples, but God was helping one people out of the oppression of another people.

Hello Robert,

What you are saying that Moses did is not true. What is true is that Moses led his people out of bondage and slavery they had endured for 430 in Egypt land. Moses divine mission had nothing to do with who believed from who did not believe among the Egyptians and his own people since that was not his mission.

The true story of Moses can be read in the Book of Exodus and not from the Quran because Moses was not an Arab man. Moses was a Jewish man as Jesus was too.

Hello Steve,

Out of hundreds of Black American people there I am the only one asking questions. I make my way to as many preachers as I can to have a one on one then I randomly go to the members.

I tell them that prophets are racially different and that takes them by surprise because they had never heard that said before. I go on to tell them that their prophet must a Black American as they are. They where stunned.

I told them that the Bible is the Jews telling the whole world including Black Americans the troubles they have had with other people and how God came and helped them.
I told them that when God helped the Jews it doesn’t mean that God was helping us just the same. I told that they have to come out of the House of Israel because Black Americans are not Jews.

As I spoke to one preacher and his mind was picking up fast the things I was saying he asked who then is our prophet and I told him that I am and he just looked at me.

I will be going tonight and Sunday. It is a help because I am getting exposure.

Do you know how big of a thing it is to know that prophets are racially different? It is awesome, don’t you think since no one has ever thought along those lines before.

Incidentally, where you are born does not tell as much as your racial identity and to be honest with you Steve it has become a boring issue going back and forth with on the race.
