The Howard University football team prepares to take on the South Carolina State University Bulldogs tomorrow afternoon while making their television debut on ESPNU.
This also marks the Hall of Fame Weekend where 10 former Howard University athletes will be inducted.
"It's no pressure, it's like any other game," senior wide receiver Thyron Lewis said. "Instead of just Howard seeing us play, other people will get a chance to see how an HBCU plays football."
Former Bison quarterback Jay "Sky" Walker, who is also a 2005 Hall of Fame inductee, will provide play-by-play analysis for the game on ESPNU.
The Bison (4-4, 1-4) are coming off of a 26-7 loss on the road to Norfolk State University, while the Bulldogs (6-2, 4-1) defeated the Delaware State University Hornets 24-3 in a home game last week.
The Bulldogs lead the series 24-10, and have won two in a row versus the Bison. In last year's game, the Bulldogs reigned victorious in a 23-16 win at home.
The Bulldogs present a tough match-up for the Bison with their high-scoring offensive line.
Junior running back Deshawn Baker leads the Bulldogs' offense with 138 carries, 624 yards and six touchdowns. Baker is also second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in rushing.
South Carolina is also led by standout freshman running back Jonathan Woods who has 106 carries, 465 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.
However, the Bison, who are ranked No. 3 in the Division 1-AA in total defense, are prepared to take on the Bulldogs.
The Bison are led defensively by two-time All-American senior free safety Antoine Bethea who has 33 solos, 28 assists, two tackles for losses, three interceptions and six pass break ups.
The game against the Bulldogs was originally scheduled as a night game beginning at 7 p.m., but the game time has been changed to 3:30 p.m. in Greene Stadium.
"If the game was at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m., we would be prepared," Lewis said. "Time has no effect."
