Citizens to Elect Senator Jacqueline Y. Collins
Cornell West, noted professor and intellectual, stated that this country needs ethical leadership..leadership that is rooted in a love for people and a willingness to be a servant leader. In these modern times, one of the most radical actions we can take is to get behind and support political leaders who exemplify these characteristics.
Senator Jacqueline Collins, Democratic stat e legislator for the 16th District, is that type of political leader, a servant leader. She has already won numerous awards for her work as a Freshman legislator in Illinois. She co-sponsored a bill to suspend state investment in companies doing business in or with the Republic of Sudan. This legislation, the first of its; kind in the nation, seeks to pressure the Sudanese government to end its policies of genocide and and terrorism in Darfur. Senator Collins, a Harvard graduate, also worked with and supported Harvard's Black student groups in enacting a similar pollicy for Harvard's endowment monies. Harvard remains the only major University with an official divestment in Sudan policy.
