Howard University's cross country team is preparing to compete in the MEAC championship this weekend in Raleigh, N.C.
The cross country team has been in preparation for this tournament under the coaching and leadership of Coach Michael Merritt, and are prepared to do all in their power to come back to the Mecca with a championship.
"We have a pretty good chance of winning the title," said junior biology major Aisha Franklin.
"We have been practicing longer hours and practicing much harder than usual," she said.
Franklin, who is one of the women competing for Howard in this year's tournament, says she is confident that her squad will come in first place.
Facing strong teams such as Hampton University and Norfolk State University can be intimidating, but the Howard cross country team, fears not.
Lady Bison runners, Ashley Vann, Amanda Stevenson, Tasha Harris and Keyanna Hill are also expected to have great performances.
"Indira is one of the girls who has been doing a great job this season, she has definitely been on top," said her teammate, Aisha Franklin. "We have strong expectations for her."
Previous accolades attained by the Lady Bison include the 2005 Cappy Anderson Invitational in Princess Anne, Md., as well as a MEAC championship in 2003.
