Students flocked outside of Cramton Auditorium Thursday evening, an hour prior to the doors opening, in order to be a part of the thrilling event of the 2005 Fashion Show.
"It's not hard to sell the fashion show, people stand in lines for hours to get tickets every year, " said Homecoming Public Relations co- coordinator and senior public relations major, Taryn Burns. "It is an event people wait all year to see."
With tears welling up in her eyes, Dannie Rae a senior fashion merchandising major and coordinator for the 2005 Homecoming fashion show said, " I just wanted to show everyone that it is okay to be creative and original and you should never be afraid to."
Showcasing designers and lines like, Tristin Blake, Meezan Atr Couture, Xavier Furs, Akademiks, Select New York, Descai Inc., Idia and Rocawear.
Despite technical difficulties pertaining to wardrobe, Homecoming officials said the exhibition of the clothing was a huge success.
" The music selection was even great, and it was nice to see all of it come together," said Homecoming volunteer Whitney Hopkins, a sophomore marketing major.
Homecoming chairwoman Felicia Crabtree was pleased with the outcome.
"I am really happy with it, we took it up a notch," said the senior broadcast journalism major. "Everything has been top notch and I am so excited for the Yardfest, the football game that we are going to win and the R&B Concert, that will feature [rapper] Common instead of Vivian Greene," says Crabtree. " All I have to say is next year they better be able to step their game up."
The new, improved and well organized fashion show surprised its audience with guest models like Esco and Lance Gross, and a performance by the newly signed Def Jam group, Black Butterfly.
Many Howard students said that the event was nearly seamless and really helped to increase the anticipation of the rest of Homecoming weekend.
"The show was fabulous, awesome and great," said Jamel Franklin, a sophomore marketing major. "This is brilliant a start for what is going to be wonderful week."
