Football Team Confident of a Homecoming Win
On Saturday, Bison fans will line up in front of Greene Stadium to witness one of the most anticipated Homecoming events of the weekend: the Homecoming Game.
"I'm [always] confident in the football team during Homecoming," said Barrie Bouey. "I think we're going to take it this year."
Bouey was one of the few optimists found in the sea of eager students. Others, like Jasmine Turner, were not as positive.
"I think we're going to lose," she said. "Half the people here are not going to [see the actual game], but going to mingle."
Howard (3-3, 0-3) vs. North Carolina A&T (3-4, 2-2) is more important than some may assume. This Homecoming game will be a perfect opportunity for the Bison to get revenge after losing to the Aggies (13-14) in overtime last season.
After a tough loss against Morgan State University last week, the Bison Football team is fighting hard to regroup and bring home their first conference win of the season.
"I feel that we need to come out with a win," explained Bison wide receiver Thyron Lewis. "We can still end the season with a winning record of 8-3. We may be out of the race for playoffs but we can still play hard and spoil the chance of playoffs for the rest of the MEAC."
The last time Howard played A&T for Homecoming was in 1996, and the Bison served the Aggies with a 38-3 loss. However, this year the match up seems to swing more towards North Carolina because they have won three of the last four games against Howard so far.
It is admirable that the Bison do not seem to be buckling or giving in to the constant buildup.
"I feel really confident about this game," said defensive lineman Jarrett Burgess. "I know [some people may be worried] after a loss like the one last week, but I know this team is capable of [winning] so I'm not feeling any pressure."
The Bison face off against the Aggies on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Greene Stadium.
