"Taught at Columbia University. Successfully argued the benchmark US Supreme Court Rulings such as Swann vs charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education in 1971 and Griggs vs Duke Power Co in 1971. Authored many books including ""Beyond Affirmative Action"" and ""The State of Black America"" to name a couple. Also served as Chancellor of North Carolina Central University. Was Director-Counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education in NYC. Only the third Director-Counsel after Thurgood Marshall and Jack Greenberg."
