Online or In-Store??? Who saved more this Christmas? (1019 hits)

So how did you shop for Christmas this year? Did you spend hours at the stores and malls? Or did you shop online from the comfort of your own home? Did you find great deals or just ok bargains? If you did some online and in store, which one saved you the most?

The trend, of course, is more people are turning to the internet to get better deals. Black Friday is huge, but Black Friday online is gaining on the stores. Cyber Monday is just as big as Black Friday. In my opinion, the REAL DEALS are found online. Even if that means finding an online coupon to use in the store. I saved so much last year I decided to attempt to get almost everything online this year, and I'm pretty sure it paid off. Take a look:

Here are some of the deals I found/used this Christmas: Spent $100 for Home Depot Gift Card, got $50 cash back; Spent $100 @ Toys R Us, Got $70 back; Spent $100 @ Target, Got $50 back. Bought $50 Gift Certificate for Nordstrom Rack for $25; Spent $30 for a certificate for a Facial and a 90 minute massage (for Valentine's Day); I bought a couple nights at The popular Four Seasons Lodge and Golf Resort for $200...just to name a few!!!

So, tell me about your shopping experience this shopping season and your thoughts on shopping online vs. in-store.

Thanks for your response and feedback!

I fully agree with you about Christmas (and all other holidays) being too commercialized. Consumers are targeted even for things like President's Day. Kinda getting out of hand. From a spiritual stand point though, I think it's our responsibility to know the reason we celebrate and actually celebrate it. Make sure our children understand the actual meaning as well. I personally don't have an issue with participating in the retail side of it and giving to our friends, family, and people less fortunate than we are. I do agree we should celebrate our loved ones always and not just on special events and occasions. Even if it is on a specific occasion, the spirit of giving is still in effect.

We also have to be strong enough to know if we are not in a position to indulge in spending lots of money during these holidays, we should not go into debt or stress out over it. Material things are great, but the most important thing is family, and providing their basic needs. We have to stay within our means. Now with the retailers emphasizing the holidays, consumers tend to benefit. This is when we can get the things we want for far less expensive than normal (in most cases). I typically don't buy anything without some type of savings.

I appreciate you checking out the site. Hopefully you checked both the Shopping Genie and my deals page on Facebook. I try to provide as much good info on deals and saving money as I can year round. I like doing this because it saves me money, I save others money, and it provides another income stream. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Funny you say that. A group of us was just debating/discussing the actual date, but we didn't come to an official conclusion. However, we all agree December 25 is not it of course.

I feel what you are saying about Facebook. I was a bit late joining myself. I've been on there for over a year now. I realized social networking is imperative for business.
